PSJA ISD Theatre Teams Sweep Top Two UIL 5A State Theatre Honors in Texas PSJA Southwest Theatre Named UIL 5A State Champion Theatre Team

AUSTIN, TX – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) theatre students earned statewide recognition after two district programs finished among the top theatre teams in Texas. PSJA Southwest Early College High School was named the UIL 5A State Champion Theatre Team, while PSJA North Early College High School earned UIL 5A State First Runner-Up honors, placing the district's theatre programs first and second among Class 5A schools statewide.

The distinction places PSJA Southwest as the top Class 5A theatre program in Texas and PSJA North among the state's elite programs, marking a historic achievement for PSJA ISD Fine Arts.

The UIL State Champion Theatre Team Award is the highest recognition awarded to a high school theatre program in Texas. The honor is determined through a comprehensive scoring system that combines results from the UIL State Film Contest, UIL State Theatrical Design Contest, and UIL State One-Act Play Contest, recognizing programs that demonstrate excellence across all facets of theatre arts.

The award reflects outstanding achievement in performance, directing, technical production, theatrical design, and storytelling, making it one of the most competitive and prestigious honors in Texas high school fine arts.

PSJA ISD theatre students earned a combined 27 medals at the UIL State Theatrical Design Contest, showcasing exceptional talent across multiple design disciplines.

In addition, PSJA Southwest Early College High School Theatre earned Bronze Medalist honors in the UIL 5A State One-Act Play Contest, further contributing to the program's championship title.

At the UIL State Film Contest, PSJA Southwest's documentary El Museo 956 earned 2nd Place in the 5A Documentary Division, while PSJA North Early College High School's Your Reality captured 2nd Place in the 5A Digital Animation Division. Both productions received UIL State plaques and individual Silver Medals.

"This achievement reflects the extraordinary dedication, creativity, and talent of our students, directors, and theatre educators," said Dr. Alejandro Elias. "To have two PSJA ISD theatre troupes finish first and second in the state is a remarkable accomplishment that highlights the strength of our Fine Arts programs and the opportunities available to our students."

The statewide recognition further exemplifies PSJA ISD's continued excellence in Fine Arts, where students consistently compete and succeed at the highest levels of competition across Texas.
