PSJA ISD Honors Students during a Go Gold Pre-game Presentation

PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD), in partnership with the Greater Gold Foundation, hosted a special Go Gold pre-game presentation in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month during the football game between PSJA North Early College High School and Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial High School on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO), 42 families in the United States receive the devastating news each day that their child has cancer. To raise awareness on the impact of this disease, September has been designated as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This observance shines a light on the various types of cancer affecting children and aims to generate funds for research and support.

During a special pre-game ceremony, over 25 PSJA ISD students, either currently battling cancer or in remission, were honored. They were invited onto the field at PSJA Stadium, joined by their families, friends, teachers, and district leaders, in a tribute to their courage and resilience.

Each year, the presentation is possible through an ongoing collaboration with the Go Gold Foundation and PSJA ISD.

“In September, we honor dozens of children under the Friday Night Lights, creating a memorable experience and reminding them that they are a valued part of the world around them,” said PSJA Health Services Director Sulema Solis. “We also want to raise awareness and funds for the Greater Gold Foundation so they can continue their work in finding a cure.”

This annual initiative has honored hundreds of children fighting cancer while continuing to provide them with ongoing support and resources.
